Prescott House is in the News! Daily Courier says the Prescott Arizona is a top recovery city!

RECOVERY CITY: Daily Courier Prescott is among the nation's top locations for battling addictions!

It's sometimes hard for people without experience in the dark world of addiction to muster up sympathy or understanding for those who live the nightmare.

The treatment and recovery community in Prescott has grown exponentially since 1988, when John Valentine had the idea to open Prescott House, the city's first privately operated residential recovery business.

"The city manager said, 'You can't do that in this town,'" Valentine recalled recently. The treatment and recovery community in Prescott has grown exponentially since 1988, when John Valentine had the idea to open Prescott House, the city's first privately operated residential recovery business.

"The city manager said, 'You can't do that in this town,'" Valentine recalled recently.

But he did, going even further three years later to establish, with acclaimed substance abuse professional Pia Mellody, Pia's Place, exclusively for women.

Those operations, and their subsequent counterparts and competitors, have helped thousands regain their lives, providing not only sobriety but also a type of ongoing security that prompts long-sober alumni to come around in times of high stress.

"When 9/11 happened," Prescott House executive director Dayton Turberville said, "this is where guys came, because it's safe. It's home to a lot of people."
